Is your school prepared to prevent and respond to a cardiac emergency on campus?
What is the SuperHeart Schools Program?
The SuperHeart Schools Program is a semester-long, school-based SCA prevention and response program designed to equip high schools in North Texas with the tools and resources needed to save lives from sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). SCA is reported as the leading cause of death on school campuses and the #1 killer of student athletes.[1] In response, Living for Zachary is committed to creating safer school environments for students, staff, faculty, and families through a whole-school approach that positively impacts each member of the school community during the program duration.
Included for all SuperHeart Schools:
- Student heart screenings offered on campus for ages 12-22
- Service of current AEDs on campus and replacement of batteries and pads, if needed
- Additional AEDs awarded to meet a 3-minute “drop-to-shock” response time from anywhere on campus
- CPR/AED certification training for school staff
- Student CPR demonstrations
- A SaveStation AED tower to be placed in a highly visible, outdoor location on campus to house an AED
- Guided support in creation of a school Hero Team and Hero Plan (cardiac emergency response plan) to be dispatched in the event of a cardiac event on campus
- Fun Red Out awareness event with SuperHeart Schools t-shirts for the school community
- Sudden cardiac arrest education event for students and families
